Night Marchers
flute solo or flute & percussion | 4'
Notes:

In Hawai’i, the land where I was born and raised, one of the most popular legends is that of the night marchers. The night marchers are ghosts of ancient Hawaiian warriors who are said to roam the islands at night, visiting battlefields and sacred sites. It is said that if a commoner makes eye contact with the night marchers, that person will die and be forced to march with them for all eternity. This piece was intended to evoke the ritual of the march, as well as the sound world of the marchers, which includes drumbeats, chants, flute, rustling of leaves...
