Waiata Aroha

horn and harp duo | 7'

Melodies of love and longing for a novel pairing of instruments. Composed for the Apple Orange Pair duo as part of the inaugural Connecticut Summerfest.

Notes:

‘Waiata aroha’ means ‘love song’ in Maori, the language of the Maori people of New Zealand. This piece builds upon two chant themes that I found several years ago in a book called Traditional Songs of the Maori by McLean and Orbell.

Performance information:

Premiered on June 14th, 2016 as part of the inaugural Connecticut Summerfest at the University of Hartford.
